Water Distribution on the Earth
Water is consumed by every human alive on earth. It is distributed among people as the freshwater, which is
suitable for drinking and other household activities while it is distributed in the oceans as the salt water. The
water covers about 70% of the earth and this is the only reason why earth is known as the blue planet. The saline
water, which is distributed among the oceans, has a salinity of 3.5%, which can vary according to the surroundings.
The drinking water, which is distributed to the humans, has a salinity of less than 1%. The freshwater of the
planet is not evenly distributed. Today freshwater is found as ground water, surface water and even in some ice
caps. The salt which we get is entirely based on the salt water from the oceans. This salt water cannot be used in
daily activities. If used in irrigation, then it can damage the crops. So the need of freshwater is much more than
that of the salt water.
Water distribution is not an easy task, especially if it is of fresh water. Fresh water is used for drinking
purposes and hence its cleanliness should be kept in mind. It should be observed that no microorganism or chemical
is being added to it while distribution. The freshwater is reaching different homes for usage and mismanagement of
it can cause dangerous effects. Water is not only distributed in the form of liquid but in the solid forms as well.
It has been calculated and researched that no matter the place you are, at some depth below your feet lies some
water. Only 0.3% of fresh water is present in rivers and lakes.
Water distribution is a kind of cycle, which goes on and on. This movement of water is carried out between the
earth’s surface and the atmosphere. Water is evaporated in the form of gas to the clouds, which in the liquid form
is returned to the earth with rain. The fresh water is unevenly distributed on earth, which has various effects on
the lives of people, nature and other resources. Some political problems are also connected with the distribution
of water. The amount of water distributed to a certain area decides its capability of irrigation. The region
receiving water in a good amount won’t face a problem, but the region with low fresh water supply will have many
difficulties. The uneven distribution of water has even led to war and various political problems.
By wasting freshwater carelessly, people are creating problems for themselves as well as for their future
generations. It becomes quite difficult for a human to shift from a water deficient area to an area with plenty of
water. You need to manage with the amount of water, which you are having in your area and this can only be done by
proper utilization of water. Preserving and recycling of it has thus become utmost important as it saves a lot of
freshwater for the future use. The more fresh water you will have in your future, the easier will be the life.
